I thought I would expand a little on my background to fill in the gaps so that you may get to know me a little bit better. Here in the first of a series of articles.
I was born in Liverpool England, the second largest seaport in the UK and a gateway to Ireland. Liverpool is not any ordinary City it is Celtic in culture and nature. The natives there will stop and talk with you even if they have never met you before, my wife can verify that she will often have complete strangers talk to her about their life story while standing at the checkout of the local supermarket.
I am one of twelve children my sister Lorraine was the eldest, followed by myself, the beginning of a continuous line of boy's that were to follow after me. My mother gave birth to 8 boys and four girls. When I tell people how many brothers and sister I have, they would look at me in surprise and after a short pause ask, "Are you a Catholic?"
"No," I replied I am Protestant. (Catholics do not believe in contraceptives.)
My father's dad came from Sierra Leone, West Africa. I never had the opportunity to meet him; He had died before I was born at the age of forty, my parents named me after him, "John Arthur Scotland." Apparently, I inherited the family name "Scotland" because when he came to England, they could not pronounce his African name, so he changed it to Scotland.
To be continued.
